Getting started

Your first studio visit

A few details that make arriving easier.

Know what to expect

Before travelling, check which entrance to use, the session time and any arrival instructions. Keep the class details somewhere easy to find, and allow time to get your bearings. Clear practical information can make a new place feel more approachable. If you have not visited the area before, look at the journey as part of planning the session rather than leaving it until you are on the way.

Ask before you arrive

Ask the studio about equipment, what to bring and where belongings can be kept. Questions about the entrance, room or class format are easier to settle before the visit. You could ask how the session begins, whether a mat is needed and whom to speak to when you arrive. Keep any reply with the class information so the useful details are together.

When you arrive, take a moment to orient yourself and let the teacher know it is your first visit. Ask where to set up and listen to the opening explanation. If something is unclear, a question before the first movement can help you understand how the rest of the session will unfold.
